Senior journalist Ravish Kumar was awarded the inaugural Gauri Lankesh Memorial Award in Bengaluru on 22nd September, for his ‘sharp news analysis and uncompromising secular stance’. In a stimulating 52 minute speech, he delved deep into topics that ranged from Indian media and its role to the detriment of Indian democracy to Article 370 and its aftermath. He spoke about the Centre’s Hindi imposition while quoting from a poem by Kedarnath singh evoking a thunderous applause from the audience.
