Film on JURRAT

27 Sep 2014

The film provides a glimpse of JURRAT - A week long campaign on violence against women, organised by Majma and Swaang from Dec 10 to 16 2013.

Jurrat is Courage! Audacity! Our brazen spirit! Our fearless stride together to recognize, speak out, protest and act against the manifold forms of violence faced by women in both private and public spaces. The campaign engaged with these issues through a repertoire of cultural forms and public performances, including poetry, music, theatre and exhibitions.

Tales of Bonbibi: The Forest Goddess worshipped by Hindus and Muslims

In times like these, when the political unrest in our country is soaked in communal tension, tales of communal harmony where Hindus and Muslims have worshipped the same Gods and Goddesses since ages, need to be reiterated time and again. Bonbibi or 'Lady of the Forest' is one Goddess that the Hindus and Muslims of Sundarbans, in Bengal, have unanimously prayed to protect themselves from wild animals in the forest, as they ventured inside to collect wood, honey, crabs and fish, thus solidifying the religious syncretism of our country.
