On 18th June 2020, PM Narendra Modi launched the auction of 41 coal blocks across India for commercial mining, under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. But massive protests from several quarters, including the 3-day all India coal workers’ trade unions strike, is a major reminder of what’s at stake for the millions of Adivasi lives; and our environment at large.

Jobless shoe polish workers in Mumbai face risk of starvation

The livelihoods of almost 35,000 shoe polish workers in Mumbai are at risk as they face possible starvation amidst the lockdown. Entirely dependent on the earnings of Mumbai's millions of daily local train passengers, they are now being mistreated and asked to vacate the station premises by the railway authorities. Manohar Das, a shoe polish worker, appeals to the authorities for relief.
