Truck dumps stones at pro-CAA rally site, protesters under threat?

Video surfaces on social media showing large stones being brought to Maujpar in New Delhi

On Sunday night the Jamia Coordination Committee released a video of a truck dumping large stones, pieces of debris and rocks at near Maujpur, close to the site of a rally in favour of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The video may be viewed here:

In its tweets JCC said, “At about 11 pm a truck full of stones was unloaded near Maujpar where pro CAA mob is rallying. Slogans of ‘modi ji sangharsh karo, hum tumhare saath hain’ can be clearly heard in the background. State sponsored rioters are on a rampage with full impunity.”

This is particularly disturbing how Delhi saw clashes between pro and anti-CAA groups during the weekend.

On Saturday road number 9, a one-way road connecting Noida with Kalindi Kunj was opened. Just hours later, over 500 people, mostly women sat near Jafrabad metro station to protest the CAA. Protesters occupied road number 66 that connects Seelampur with Maujpur and Yamuna Vihar. Another protest took place on the main Seelampur road near the Kardampuri area. The Jafarabad metro station was shut down temporarily due to the protests on Saturday.

Trouble began when a pro-CAA rally started in the Maujpur area. At about 3PM on Sunday, BJP leader and serial hate offender Kapil Mishra arrived near the Jafrabad metro station and demanded that the road be emptied. An our later some people arrived and started pelting stones. Soon it turned into a violent exchange between both groups, each claiming that the other started it. Police fired teargas shells to disperse the crowd.

No matter what spin is given to the truck dumping stones at the protest site, the increasing threat to the lives of anti-CAA protesters cannot be denied.
