Last week, on Sunday, Telangana Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao said that the Cabinet unanimously passed an order under the Epidemic Disaster Management Act, barring private educational institutions from increasing their fees for the academic year of 2020-21. It has also asked house owners to not collect rent for the month of March, April and May from tenants, reported Deccan Chronicle.
“Private managements are not being allowed to enhance a single paisa. They are allowed to collect only the tuition fee, that too on a monthly basis. If they are found collecting any other fee they will be held liable and their registrations will be cancelled immediately,” he said.
KCR who addressed a press conference at Pragati Bhavan told house owners that rent could be recovered at a later stage in installments and cautioned them of penal action if they defy orders. KCR also announced that the Cabinet had allowed the collection of property without any compounding fee in municipalities and corporations till May 31. Telangana has also allowed to defer the fixed power charges to industries which were closed during the lockdown period. The tariff will be recovered at a later stage in instalments.
If power charges are paid within the due date, the Cabinet will give one percent rebate on power charges to pharma companies, and rice, flour and dal mills.
The Cabinet has also said that marriage function halls will be used as temporary godowns for storage of fertilisers for the ensuing kharif season as around 21.5 lakh fertilisers would be required for agricultural operations that were to take place on 1.35 acres of land.
The Delhi government too has passed a similar directive that no private school will be allowed to increase fees until schools reopen. The Maharashtra government too has taken the same measure asking rent collection to be postponed by three months. The Noida government too has said that landlords can only take rent from workers (tenants) only after a month.
