A Delhi Court has directed Jail Authorities to provide medical assistance to Bhim Army Chief Chandra Shekhar Azad if required. The interim order was passed by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Arul Varma while hearing a plea by Azad seeking medical treatment at AIIMS.
Azad has been in judicial custody in Tihar in connection with the anti-CAA protests at Daryaganj since December 21, 2019. Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad mobilized the huge mass of Muslims-Dalits-Bahujans who carried constitution and Ambedkar’s posters, while chanting ‘Bahujan-Muslim Ekta Zindabad‘. In its application filed before the Court, Azad has claimed that he is suffering from a condition called Polycythemia which thickens the blood and may lead to a cardiac arrest. Azad has further claimed that he has been undergoing treatment and day-to-day check up for the same under the supervision of his doctor at AIIMS.
He has thus prayed for a direction to the Authorities to either allow him to get treatment from his doctor or take him to AIIMS.In the medical report submitted by the Medical Officer, Tihar Jail, it has been submitted that the condition of Azad as well as his vitals were stable and satisfactory. It is added that all his medical complaints, which included backache, body pain, tooth ache and eye irritation, were being attended to.
The Court today adjourned hearing in the application because the report of the Investigating Officer was not on record. The matter would be taken up next on January 9. Azad is being represented by Advocates Mahmood Pracha, OP Bharti, VC Bharti and MS Arya
