Petition in Delhi HC pleads for peace as 35 Cos of Paramilitary are brought in

Delhi HC

ANI reports that a plea has been moved in Delhi High Court regarding the violence in Maujpur, Jafrabad and adjoining areas in during the protests related to Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), yesterday. While details are awaited, it is to be seen if the Court will actually intervene. So far, since December 2019, when petitions have been moved by Jamia students etc they have encountered adjournments and delays!

Meanwhile, in a belated yet welcome move, the Central government (under whom the Delhi police falls, jurisdictionally) has reportedly, on February 25, 2020, 35 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in Northeast Delhi along with Special Cell, Crime Branch and Economic Offences Wing (EOW) officials. Local police from different districts of Delhi have also been called in. Is this belated action to ensure that a facade of peace is maintained as Donald Trump is in the capital today?
