Nandurbar (Maharashtra): This woman from a remote village of Maharashtra is already among the privileged few in today’s India who landed a government job soon after graduation. She however was not content with what she had, and dreamt big. But, God is so graceful to her that in the end she was blessed with even bigger.

Mayuri Jadhav was aspiring to become a Tahsildara or a Talathi or at least work as a Clerk in a government department like her elder sister. She however went on to become an Auditor.

Mayuri is a native of Kargaon – a small village on Dhule-Chalisgaon Road in North Maharashtra. After completing B.Com from North Maharashtra University, she was working as a Peon – a Class 4 post, at Moramba government health center near Akkalkuwa in Nandurbar district.

“Working as a peon or a Class 4 post was never my target. But, since I got the government job in first attempt, my father insisted that I should not decline the offer”, Mayuri said while talking to ummid.com.

On her father’s insistance, she reported at the government health facility in Moramba. However, her dream to achieve something more kept her restless. So, while fulfilling her duty at the health center, she also started preparing for different competitive exams conducted by the state government.

“Every morning, the first thing I would do is to explore newspapers for government jobs and competitive exams. During the last six years, I appeared in many such exams but failed”, she said.

She however was able to complete Masters in Commerce (M Com) during this tenure as External Candidate. Dr A.A. Faizee, then Medical Officer of Moramba Primary Health Center (PHC), can still recall Mayuri’s tryst with competitive exams.

“While fulfilling her duty with remarkable care and discipline, Mayuri could always be seen deeply engaged in studies with books and notebooks atop her lap”, Dr Faizee told ummid.com.

“She had a unique quality of hard work, and never looked frustrated or depressed after failures”, he added.

“In fact, I found her studying with renewed vigour each time she failed in the exams”, Dr Faizee said.

Finally, Mayuri’s turn came when she appeared in the Maharashtra Finance Department Examination September, 2019 for the post of Junior Auditor.

“The exam was fully Online and Computer based. It was tough and lengthy”, Mayuri said adding that a candidate was required to solve a question in a maximum of 26 seconds.

“I was able to solve as many questions as possible in the allotted time, and was pretty confident of securing enough marks to get appointed as an Auditor”, she said.

But, the result declared on September 18, 2019 was a shocker for Mayuri as she missed by just 02 marks to find a place in the merit list.

“This was the first time she looked really depressed. She tore into pieces her hall ticket and scorecard in furstration”, Ramesh Rathod, her husband, said.

The next 2-3 days were miserable and tough for Mayuri. She was just not able to cope with the situation. Then suddenly her Mobile phone rang.

“Is this Mayuri? You are selected and you are requested to come to Nashik office for document verification”, a caller from an unkown landline number said.

The call was unexpected and unbelievable for Mayuri. At first, she could not comprehend how to respond to the caller.

“I thought it was a prank call. Hence, I asked the caller if he could drop me an e-mail”, she said.

To her surprise, the e-mail was there in her Inbox in the next few minutes.

In the state of surprise and delight, Mayuri rushed to Nashik for document verification. It was there she learnt that the candidate ahead of her with 02 marks was disqualified after document verification as she was a Science graduate while the eligibility for the post was graduation in Commerce.

“This is the beauty of her strength, the grace of her stride and the dance of her destiny. A fitting reward for the hard work, devotion and committment with which Mayuri worked in the last six years in order to achieve her dreams”, Dr Faizee said.
