Kashmir clampdown continues, Yechury, Raja detained

Reports coming in from Srinagar indicate that communist leaders Sitaram Yechury and D Raja of the CPI(M) and CPI, respectively have been detained at the Srinagar airport and are not being allowed to move further. The CPI(M) has put out a tweet condemning the incident.

Earlier, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was detained and sent back from the Srinagar airport.

The left parties had earlier given a call to protest the clampdown and the brazen manner in which a constitutional provisions was struck down across India.

The draconian clampdown in Kashmir continues even as condemnation, both national and International grows. Earlier in the day, the Secretary General of the United Nations issued a statement expressing concern. Even as right wing mobs online, offline and on television have been celebrating the highly questionable abrogation of Article 370, there has been no news from Kashmir. Now, with national political leaders also being stopped from meeting their own party members, one can only hazard a guess who this clampdown is supposed to benefit.
