Hindu residents of this village have given their all to take care of a mosque.According to a report in the ANI, the Muslim population in the village slowly faded out and there was no one left to care for the mosque. That’s when the people in the village joined hands and preserved it.
From sweeping and mopping the premises. to playing azaan at the right hour, to painting the walls, locals here are making an effort to do everything like the people who left it behind. They might not know the namaz routine, but with the help of a pen drive which guides them through the process, the Hindus gather to pray just like their Muslim brothers in the mosque.
Isn’t this the kind of brotherhood this country needs at this hour? And what defines us as a country? It was the scourge of unemployment that slowly pushed Muslims away from the Mari village and into places where life was possible. There is another similar example of an effort to preserve a mosque takes place in a Ludhiana village.
It’s been 70 years since Muslims in Ludhiana’s Hedon Bet left during partition. However the pre-Partition mosque in the village still stands tall and no one has ever spoken a word about demolishing it. According to Daily Sikh Updates, Sikh elders in the village are determined that as long as they live, they will stand to prevent encroachment of the mosque that was built in 1920. The village elders said the 50 Muslim families who lived at Hedon Bet had left for Pakistan during the Partition in 1947.
