Dalit Community protests after being targeted in Combing Operations

After the attacks on the Dalit community gathered at the Bhima Koregaon War Memorial on January 1, 2018, a statewide ‘bandh’ was declared on January 3, 2018. Barring a few incidents of disruption of everyday life, the protest was by and large peaceful. But shortly afterward police across Maharashtra started combing operations in Dalit settlements and started picking up men and young boys claiming they had engaged in violence during the ‘bandh’. The Dalit Community felt unfairly targeted by the police and held a protest against combing operations and illegal detentions.
