Bangalore boys torture 12-year-old

The juvenile perpetrators have been handed to the Child Welfare Committee

Four young boys, including 3 minors and one adult, were arrested for allegedly torturing a twelve year old boy on the pretext of teaching him how to swim, the Bangalore Mirror reported. The incident took place inside the Sampanigram Nagar Lake near Kanteerave Stadium. A video of the incident that has gone viral shows the four boys pushing him into the water and recording him as he struggled to come outside.

The complaint against the four boys was registered by, a teacher Lakshmi R, a resident of SR Nagar, on November 12 who stated that her relative’s son had sustained injuries after his friends tortured him and beat him up inside the lake. In the video, the boy was seen crying and pleading them to leave him alone.

Officials say that out of the four, three arrested are minors and the fourth accused has been identified as Sandeep, 18. The three minor suspects have been produced before the Child Welfare Committee. Sandeep has been sent to judicial custody.

Some other reports claim that there were two more boys involved in the incident and one of them has gone into hiding.

It has not yet been decided if the delinquents will be booked under the charges of petty, serious or heinous offences as per the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

If the age of the delinquents is found to be below 16 years, they will be sent for counseling or assigned to community service, apart from having to pay a fine.
